What’s happening at the site now?

In coordination with Santa Clara County and other agency stakeholders, the approvals process for demolition of the Permanente Cement Plant and its surrounding buildings will proceed starting in 2025.

Prior to the physical demolition of the buildings on-site, this application process includes all of the steps required by the agencies and applicable federal, state and local laws, including: permitting, environmental review, remediation and consolidation of utilities.

The demolition will include 30-40 total structures within the 123-acre site.

Heidelberg Materials is submitting an application to begin the demolition of the cement plant, in alignment with its agreement with Santa Clara County from 2023.

Dates for the work being done:

Heidelberg Materials decides to permanently end cement kiln operations at the Permanente property

Heidelberg Materials enters into agreement with Santa Clara County to permanently cease kiln operations and demolish cement plant structures

Heidelberg Materials begins the required permitting process for the demolition of the Cement Plant site

Upon completion of the permitting process, environmental review will commence.

As the demolition draws nearer, Heidelberg will begin consolidating utilities and any remaining operations at the site.

Following the completion of demolition, Heidelberg will undertake the final necessary regulatory steps to complete the project, in coordination with Santa Clara County.
